While tousled waves and retro chic curls are fun hairstyles to experiment with, most women are afraid to give it a go. Reason? Hair damage due to high heat. If you have long hair, there’s one more problem to deal with. Some hair curling iron barrels are just too small to style long tresses.
To style your hair anyway you fancy, you need a little more than what most regular curling irons or wands offer. A good curling iron for this hair type includes barrel diameter of or over 1” and a specially designed curling plate to shield your hair against heat damage.
But the best curling iron for long hair also nourishes your hair while styling it.
Since a curler so perfect among a slew of options could be both intimidating and time-consuming, I’ve done the done hard part on your behalf.

Reviews of the Best Curling Irons for Long Hair
The first product featured on my list ticks all the boxes. It is versatile, flexible, fast and most of all, super easy-to-use. That’s Xtava 5 in 1 in a nutshell for you.
There are a number of things going in favor of this curling iron. To begin with, getting this curling kit is like buying 5 different wands at the price of one. The set comes with 5 tourmaline ceramic barrels, ranging from 0.3 to 1.25 inch in size. No matter the thickness of your hair or how you want to style your hair, it will get the job done.
And the best part? All you have to do is switch the barrels instead of dealing with 5 heavy-duty wands to get your preferred hairstyle.
The 5 barrels not only differ in size but also in shape. While two of them are curling wands, the rest three are curling irons. From bouncy light waves to banana curls and everything in between – the possibilities with these 5 barrels are virtually endless.
Xtava uses ceramic tourmaline technology. Ceramic is highly slidable because of its non-stick nature. Tourmaline releases tons of negative ions to neutralize positive ions. And what does that mean, you ask?
Tourmaline powder coated ceramic plates like the one used in this curling iron help you get rid of frizz, allows you to curl your hair with minimum passes and also prevent your hair from heat-induced damage.
Well, I’m a little disappointed that the handle doesn’t have a cool tip. However, the makers have compensated for this by including an extremely well-made heat-resistant glove in the kit. The handle is fairly ergonomic and comes with a 360-degree swivel cord, allowing freehand motion.
The ceramic plates housed in this curling wand stand out because of their ability to seal moisture in your tresses. The temp range of 250-410 degree F is an ideal range for both fine and coarse hair.
Women with long hair often complain about split ends and frizz due to the use of heat. Thankfully, Xtava not only keeps your hair moisturized but also leaves a satin finish on your curls.
Many woman fear of getting their delicate tresses snagged while styling it. To make sure that never happens, the makers have used a tourmaline coated ceramic plate that runs along your tufts of hair like bread on butter. I’ve never heard of anyone grumbling about getting their hair pulled by Xtava.
There is an easy-peasy control scheme along with a bright screen on the handle. You don’t have to possess incredible precision to get the best out of this device. In fact, if you are buying a curling iron for the first time, I am strongly recommending this kit to you.
What Could Be Better?
Like every other gadget on Earth, this humble curling iron too isn’t absolutely flawless. The absence of a cool tip on the handle bugged me a little. You will have to be careful and make it a point to wear gloves to prevent burn injury.
A brainchild of famous hairstylist Sarah Potempa, Beach Waver Pro is a perfect archetype of modern, technically advanced hair grooming tool. With a mere push of a button, it can give your morning primp a whole new dimension. Let’s find out how and why-
The Beachwaver Beach Waver Pro Curling Iron is one of the most hyped curling irons to hit the market recently. It is essentially an auto rotating curling iron and works wonders on the thickest hair you can imagine.
Beachwaver Pro uses tourmaline ceramic technology to reduce frizz and treat dull and damaged hair. The 1” barrel heats up quickly, thus reducing the number of passes you got to make to achieve the desired hairstyle.
The temperature range between 310-450 degree F. So no matter what your hair type or thickness is, it has got you covered. No prizes for guessing that the higher the temperature goes, the easier it is to tame thick tresses, making it the best curling iron for long thick hair on this list.
Tourmaline is a precious gemstone and the coating of crushed tourmaline on the ceramic plate has multiple benefits. For instance, it boosts the discharge of negative ions. As a result, you are left with smooth, glossy curls and zero frizz.
Coming to the most talked-about feature of this model, the auto-rotation. This is a state-of-the-art technology that makes styling hair a breeze for both newbies and professionals. Beachwaver Pro has gone one step ahead by employing dual rotation technology to get even better results.
With a flick of a button, the barrel will rotate in Left and Right directions. This will not only speed up the curling process but also reduce the risk of burn injuries. To further enhance the safety, Beachwaver Pro also uses a 30-minutes auto shut off function.
Dual auto-rotation is a super cool technology and works just as advertised. However, it took me a while to get the hang of the coordination. By that, I mean it took me a while to figure out which direction I want my curls to be and in which direction I need to rotate the barrel.
Trust me, it gets easier with practice. Once you get the drift, it will barely take you 15 minutes to jazz up your hairstyle.
To add to the ease of use, it features a 360-degree swivel cord and a 9ft long cord. The cords don’t end up getting tangled and you don’t necessarily need to be too close to the mirror to style your hair.
But what left me the most astonished is its ability to keep my curls intact for over 48 hours. If you have super thick and super long hair like me that takes a truckload of hairspray to stay in shape, look no further. With minimal hairspray, your curls will hold the shape for 24-48 hours if you style it correctly. The device truly shines when it comes to creating relaxed, beach-ready curls.
What Could be Better?
The lowest temperature it can reach is 350 degrees. While this is perfectly fine for medium long and moderately thick hair, you will need a lower temperature to treat thin hair. If your hair type is fine and extremely damage-prone, look for a model with a lower temperature option.
Styling long and thick hair demands something extra. Extra power, extra features and most of all, extra precision to produce beautiful bombshell curls. The next model on my list is packed with all the above plus a lot more to bring out the “oomph factor” in your hair.
Unlike the previous product which is best suited only for medium to extremely thick hair, Sultra Bombshell works best on ultra-thin, delicate, straight long hair. With a little practice, you can get runaway curls, tight ringlets and anything in between in just 10-15 minutes.
The wand uses Advanced Care Ceramic Technology to treat heat-related damage and frizz. The device is clipless, making it a perfect choice for color-treated and dull hair as well.
It releases far infrared rays that seal the moisture in your hair and guard your hair follicles against high heat. You won’t have to worry about getting your hair pulled either. The ceramic plate is smooth and highly slidable. It heats up fast, glides along your tufts smoothly.
It incorporates a dual-heater system to ensure even distribution of heat and consistent heating at 380 degrees F. All these to eliminate the occurrence of “cold spots”.
Simplicity is one of the biggest advantages of having this model. You don’t have to load your hair with anti-frizz or any other kind of hairspray to get voluminous, relaxed and enviably beautiful curls. The settings are fairly simple. Switch it on, choose your preferred heat and you know the rest.
If you have thin, bone straight hair, this could be your go-to grooming kit for a number of reasons.
Consistent heating, clipless design, ergonomic handle, and Advanced Ceramic Technology- all these features mainly have one job to do. That is to style your hair to perfection and at the same time, nourish and replenish damaged hair.
There are not many curling irons that make it a point to nurture your hair as well. And oh my! The curls remain intact for over a day, even during the most humid days of the year.
This device is incredibly easy to use. The buttons are well spaced and the settings are quite straight forward as well.
The device is heat resistant, so worrying about electrocution is off the table. The set includes a heat resistant pad, so you can put the wand down on your table quickly in case you got to receive a call or something.
What Could be Better?
The ability to heat up quickly is both an advantage and a disadvantage. If you are new to the world of curling irons, you need to be extremely cautious while using this iron or you can get your hand burnt. The addition of a cool tip on the handle would have been great.
The next curling kit on my list has (almost) all the features one would expect from a respectable curling iron, that too without drilling a crater in your wallet. Therefore, if you are looking for the top rated curling iron for long hair on a budget, look no further.
The curling wand offers 5 heat settings. This means it will deliver optimal results irrespective of your hair length or thickness. The temperature range between 210 F-280 F indicates that the machine is great for creating bouncy, beach waves.
Would it be equally good for achieving tight, voluminous curls that last for long? Probably not. But budget models like this are bound to compromise on certain aspects like this for cost cutting.
Moving on to the positives, apart from being cost effective, it is also one of the safest curling wands I’ve come across. It locks the temperature automatically under 3 seconds unless you adjust it manually. This is to prevent your hair from damaged induced by a sudden change in heat.
To adjust the temperature once it is Locked, you will simply have to unlock it by rotating the dial to Right 25.
The wand will stand upright on any surface. This is very useful when you are multitasking and need to put the hot iron down on the table for a minute or two. Keeping the piping hot barrel on table or any other surface can lead to damage, otherwise.
It uses upscale ceramic plate along with clampless technology. The smooth ceramic plates ensure you never have to go through the pain of getting your hair snagged. On top of that, the addition of MCH core technology allows quick and consistent heating across the plate surface. By quick, I mean that the device can reach high temperature under 20 seconds! On the other hand, it also helps the barrel to cool down quickly after use.
The barrel is round in shape which makes it capable of both curling and straightening. So you are basically getting two styling devices at the price of one.
Keeping the temperature range it offers in mind, I can safely recommend this product to individuals with medium-long, thin or moderately coarse hair. You will understand the true value of this curler when you are in rush. It heats up incredibly fast and also creates your preferred style of curls in minutes.
There aren’t a lot of settings to fiddle with which makes it fairly simple to use. You can constantly monitor the temperature on the bright LCD screen on the handle. Moreover, you also don’t have to panic if you keep the curler on and go out. It will turn itself off on its own in 60 minutes.
What Could Be Better?
The only gripe I have about the machine is its inability to get hotter than 280 degrees F. While it does a fine job of treating medium length thin and moderately coarse hair, doing the same for super long and thick hair would be time-consuming.
It is hailed by many seasoned professionals as the best curling wand for long hair. Well, looking at the abundance of features it offers and overall performance, I can’t agree more.
The tourmaline powder coated ceramic plates can get as hot as 410 degrees in a few seconds. Even with long, Rapunzel-ish tresses, it will take you only a few passes and roughly 10 minutes to get those gorgeous loose curls.
The tourmaline ceramic barrel employs negative ion conditioning technology to give your hair satin smooth and silky finish. It also fights frizz and split ends by neutralizing positive ions.
Another key feature is consistent and even heating. It makes sure each strand of your hair gets an equal amount of heat. The barrel discharges far infrared heat that thoroughly treats your hair cuticles and also reduces the styling time, significantly.
Thanks to its exceptional ability to heat up fast and uniformly, your hair will hold the curl for over 2 days, irrespective of its length and thickness.
Apart from styling, it also conditions your hair to make your tresses appear shiny, smooth and most of all, healthy. However, girls possessing butt length hair can only create small curls with it. If you wish to get tighter and bigger waves, you should probably look for a device with a larger barrel.
Since it doesn’t have a stank, you can safely make it sit on top of your table when not in use. The model is packed with all the essential safety features, including a tangle-free swivel power cord.
I won’t say that the curler is super easy to use. But after 2 or 3 sessions, you will learn how to achieve your desired style of curls.
What Could Be Better?
The curling device can get too hot at times. You need to be vigilant or you will definitely end up burning your precious finger. The device itself isn’t heat-resistant per se. However, the kit includes a heat-resistant glove to guard your hands against high heat, so one brownie point for that.
It is one of the fully-automated curling irons that’ll give you salon-like precision without leaving a dent in your wallet. The device is packed with oodles of features that makes styling your hair super easy and also, super fun.
From the very basics heat adjustments to advanced elements like timer and direction of curls, you can customize everything. Once you power up the device, wait for the temperature indicator light to blink and tell you that the device is ready to use.
The machine beeps at certain intervals, depending on your heat and time settings, to alert you. In case you are doing something not and the curls are not forming the way they should, it won’t beep.
BaBylissPRO has gone with MaxLife PRO Brushless Motor Technology to facilitate a seamless operation. The motor is powerful, silent and drastically reduces the styling time.
The styling possibilities with this wand are endless. From bouncy beach waves to magazine-ready Retro Chic magazine-ready look, there’s no type of curl you cannot create with this device.
For short to medium length and moderately coarse hair, it takes about 8-10 minutes to get the job done. It may take longer for lengthier and thicker hair.
Another thing that makes BaBylissPRO stand out is the curls direction control feature. You can decide which directions you want your curls to go. If you set the timer, the grooming kit curls your hair automatically.
It gently pulls your hair strands to the curling chamber, applies heat from all directions and beeps when the job is done. I admit that the learning curve is steep. However, once you read all the instructions carefully and use it for a while, you will get used to it.
What Could Be Better?
It will take a while before you figure out how much hair to put in at one go for curling. While professional hair stylists won’t have any issue with it, novice users might find the settings a little intimidating at first. Also, the weight of the curler is slightly on the heavier side.
HOT TOOLS Professional has all the basic features I was looking for in a decent curling iron for long hair. Apart from the basics, it is loaded some bells and whistles which the tech-nerd in me couldn’t resist.
Let’s start with the necessary features first. It features a 24k gold surface that allows the heat to move inside-out along with a uniform distribution of heat. As a result, you will never experience any cold spots and your tresses will hold the curls for over 3 days.
It is not essential to use hairspray to create perfect curls. However, for a more defined look, I would definitely recommend using it before you start curling.
The machine uses Innovative Pulse technology combined with optional curl timer. While the Pulse technology results in rapid and consistent heating, the curl timer reduces a lot of effort on your part. When you set a timer, the curler will alert you when the curling is done by vibrating.
Although it is rated for all hair types, I’d say girls with medium length fine or thick hair will benefit the most from it. I love the nice little addition of a light indicator that lets me when the wand is ready to use.
It is one of the easiest to use and travel-friendly curling iron on my list so far. It consists of an ergonomic handle that provides a firm grip. It has a cool tip too which will prevent your hands from getting fried. Furthermore, there’s a heat-resistant glove in the package so no need to buy one separately.
What Could Be Better?
The curling wand sometimes creates an annoying buzzing noise. Besides this, I couldn’t find any other drawback worth pointing out.
There is literally no curling job Spring Curling Iron cannot do. From adding volume to your hair, replenish it at the core to creating banana curls- all gets done under 15 minutes.
The exceptional flexibility it offers come from the 3 interchangeable barrels included in the set. Whether you want to play safe or let your freak flag fly- all you have to do is snap and lock your preferred barrel on the handle and start styling your tresses.
Another key feature of Spring Curling Iron is the gel coating on the titanium plates and infrared technology. These two technologies work together to ensure your hair receives plenty of nourishment and protection against heat. Most average curling irons end up frying some strands of your hair while curling it.
The Sol-Gel technology I am talking about here takes pressure off the clamp. As a result, you won’t notice unsightly crease lines on your curls when the styling is done.
One of the biggest problems women face while curling their hair at home is frizz and heat-related damage. To tame frizz-prone hair, Spring Curling Iron uses state-of-the-art Nano Titanium technology. It basically releases tons of negative ions to neutralize damage-causing positive ions. Not just that, it also helps to speed up the curling process.
The very first thing that impressed me was the three different sizes and shapes of barrels included in the kit. Be it long and thick hair or long and thin, there’s nothing it cannot handle. Switching the barrels is a breeze, thanks to the snap and lock mechanism.
Then it is loaded with three different technologies, namely Sol-Gel, Nano Titanium, and Far Infrared Ray to provide your hair all the nourishment it needs. There’s no need to use a lot of hairspray to get the defined curls you’ve been dreaming of.
Ease of use is another salient feature of this curling kit. It comes with a tangle-free, 8ft long cord. Not having to deal with tangled cords floating around when you’re in rush in a huge advantage. If you run a salon, there’s another good news for you. This kit is also available with a marcel barrel which most professionals use for touch up.
Last but not the least, Spring Curling Iron is as fast as it can be. It can reach a temperature up to 410 degrees F in minutes. You can further boost that speed by turning on the Turbo Heat Button. Can’t stress enough how helpful this feature would be when you are already running late for a party or office.
What Could Be Better?
The design of the handle requires some improvement. Firstly, it doesn’t have a cool tip so, you got to be careful while using it to avoid burn injury. Secondly, the tip of the handle remains hot for a long time after the device is turned off.
Thirdly, it doesn’t come with a heat-resistant carrying bag. If you want to travel with this bad boy, you have to purchase a bag separately.
At #9, we have a product that is equally efficient for both professional and home use. When it comes to temperature retention and distribution ability, it can give the some of the best curlers in the market a run for their money. So, what makes Remington Pro worth its salt? Let’s find out:
The curling wand is enhanced with Pearl Ceramic Technology. It gives you a salon-like satin smooth finish on your curls, something ordinary curling irons aren’t capable of.
The bright pink barrel will be a luxurious addition to your makeup arsenal without costing an arm and a leg. It comes with a small barrel and a large one. The large tapered barrel can be used for getting that naturally tousled look while the smaller barrel is best for producing ringlets.
There are 9 different temperature settings ranging from 110 degrees F to 410 degrees F. Such a massive range can seamlessly cover all types of hair imaginable. Add to that, there’s a Rapid Heat Up option that gets your wand ready to cast the spell in just 30 seconds.
The digital control lets you easily fiddle with the heat settings to get your desired hairstyle in a breeze. But what’s more, it also includes a cheat chart to help you find the right settings for different types of curls, depending on your hair length and thickness.
Remington Pro is an out-and-out professional curling kit. But, it doesn’t necessarily require a professional to get the best out of it. The swift digital controls are easy to figure out. The cord it tangle-free, allowing your hand to move in any direction it wants to.
The Pearl Ceramic Technology incorporated in this model is the best in its class. It not only gives your hair a professional touch-up but also adds a lot of volume and enhances the texture of your hair.
Girls who have super thin, bone straight hair often complain that their curls won’t stay in shape for long. From my hands-on experience with Remington Pro, all I can them is that be ready to get surprised. No matter how thin or coarse your hair is, your curls will stay in shape for over a day or two if styled properly.
And boy this curler is fast! You only have to wrap each section of your hair around the barrel for 5-10 seconds to produce beach waves. If that’s not fast, I don’t know what is.
What Could Be Better?
The tip of the handle would be too small for some if not all. So if you really want to get creative, make sure to wear gloves. Also, the quality of the heat-resistant glove in the kit requires improvement. I would suggest you buy a separate one for optimal safety.
Fully automatic curlers are a rage these days. And why not? These are fast, efficient, time-saver and most of all, gets the job done with optimal precision. You don’t have to twist your arms or cramp it to get curls in both directions. Instawave lets you decide the direction in which you want your curls to go.
The heat settings are not unnecessarily complicated. There are just two heat settings – high and low. High for long and super thick hair, low for pin-straight thin hair. It can get as hot as 420 degrees F in a blink which reduces curling time to a great extent.
There’s also an auto shut-off function. The device will turn itself off on its own if not manipulated for 90 minutes.
It uses patented curl dials that double up as combs. Instawave is famed for not exerting pulling tension on your curls. Therefore, the curls come out relaxed, bouncy, shiny and natural-looking.
Instawave takes all the stress out of your morning primp. It heats up fast, there is a learning curve but after a day or two, you will get the hang of it.
If you are somebody who faces trouble curling the hair on your own, this model could be the one for you. You can efficiently hold the device and create gorgeous curls without fatiguing your arm. Due to the fast heat up, it also takes significantly less time to produce natural, bouncy beach waves.
The two heat settings make it ideal for both long-thin and long-thick hair types. Every time the device beeps, you will know that it is ready to use. Just wrap your hair around the 1” barrel, wait for the beep, when it beeps, pull it down. Yes, it is as easy as it sounds.
What’s more, your curls will hold their shape for a day or two, that too without the use of any hairspray. If your hair is frizz-prone, don’t worry because of the ceramic ionic technology. It neutralizes positive ions with negative ions to tame frizz and hair damage due to high heat.
Another massive advantage of this tool is you don’t need a heat-resistant glove to use it. It is because your hand won’t come directly in contact with the hot iron.
What Could Be Better?
Although you technically can treat thin, silky hair with this curler, I would say it is best suited for long, luscious, super coarse hair. The curling chamber takes a lot of time to pull thin strands of hair towards it for curling.
Also, I would have liked it better had it have an easier learning curve. It does take some patience to acquire the required skills to maneuver this device.
Factors that Make or Break The Best Curling Wands for Long Hair
Long hair, for obvious reasons, needs longer and wider barrel to get well-defined curls. Small barrels are going to take a lot of time to curl long, luscious tresses. ¾” or 1” inch barrels are considered to be all-rounder barrels.
These work exceedingly well on medium length coarse and thin hair. These are also perfect for short length, pin-straight hair type.
However, for butt-length, frizz-prone, coarse hair, you will need something bigger and better. For that, I would recommend a barrel size larger than 1”.
Ceramic tourmaline barrels are by far the most popular choice for salon-grade curling irons. Tourmaline coated ceramic plates release a lot of negative ions to tame frizz. They deliver a smooth, glossy finish and is also known for uniformly spreading the heat all over the hair.
Titanium barrels are a go-to choice for higher-end curlers. These are better than ceramic/tourmaline at evenly distributing and retaining heat. This type of barrels are best for curling and conditioning waist length/butt length coarse and thick hair.
Gold plated irons are less common and quite expensive. However, it is great for treating dull and damage-prone hair.
Negative Ion Technology
Long hair is extremely prone to hair problems like split ends, frizz, and dullness. To curb this problem, all the curling irons for long hair use negative ion technology.
In simpler terms, the iron material discharges negative ions that neutralize damage-causing positive ions. These negative ions infuse in your hair to reduce the natural resistance, thus making the strands easier to tame. It also adds volume to the curls, making it appear natural and bouncy.
It is best to invest in a curler that offers multiple heat adjustments, ranging from moderately low to extremely high. Everyone’s hair reacts differently to a certain temperature. While silky smooth, thin hair requires don’t share a friendly relationship with high heat, long and thick hair won’t curl at all without moderately high heat.
Step by Step Guideline and Tricks to Get Gorgeous Curls on Long Hair
From spirals, pin-up curls to bold ringlets, from the popular runaway style hair to beautiful beach waves- any look is possible to achieve when you know how to properly use a curler.
But before you get down to the business, it is quite important to prep your hair. Here are some tips you can follow to prepare your hair before the primp:
- Use a good conditioner after shampooing your hair.
- Curling wet hair is a big no-no. Towel dry or blow dry your hair before curling it. But it will be better if you can altogether avoid hair dryer because a heat-fest is coming for your hair anyway. For best results, spray a heat-protectant solution or serum onto the wet hair.
- Comb your hair thoroughly, make sure there are no tangles hiding up in a corner.
- Divide your hair into small sections. Each section should preferably around 2-3 inches wide. Use clips to hold the sections in place.
Now, let’s get down to the business. To curl your hair with a curling iron-
- Start by heating up the iron. If you have thin hair, keep the temperature below or slightly over 200 degrees (or the minimum your curler allows). Crank it up a few notches (up to 385 degrees or higher) for thicker and longer hair.
- Hold your curler vertically, clamp a section of your hair, about an inch or two from the base.
- Curl it up all the way to the root, hold on for 10-15 seconds (the timing may vary depending on your hair texture and heat setting of the iron). Once done, gently release the curls.
P.S: Alternatively, if you are using an automatic curler, you don’t have to do any of it. Just press the power button, hold the iron near your hair and the rest will be taken care of.
- If you want spirals on super thick hair, here’s a tip that always does the trick: Clasp about 2-inch wide section of your hair, curl it about half a way up.
Twirl the iron away from your face in order to only touch up the roots. Keep it wrapped for 7-10 seconds, release the clasp but not fully. Just slide it down to 1-2 inches from the base. Now again curl it up way up to the roots and hold for 5-7 seconds. And BAM!
- Gently take off all the clips. Make sure the curls have cooled down before you do so.
- Then give a gentle shake to your hair, light brushing will remove tangles (if there’s is any). Tousle the loose curls with your fingers to make them wavy and bouncy.
- This is optional. You may or may not use a holding hairspray to make your curls appear shiny and well-defined. Also, to allow your curls to hold its volume and shape for a long time, use heat-protectant spray throughout the curling process.
Mistakes You Never Knew You Were Making While Using Curling Irons
- You are not using heat protectant spray: Heat is sort of a necessary evil for hair. Too much heat is never good for your hair. But heat is also necessary to create curls. Heat protectant sprays smooth your cuticles, create a barrier against heat damage and also helps in the even distribution of heat.
- You are using the wrong size of barrels: It’s one of those few instances when size really does matter. Different sizes and shapes of barrels are used for producing different types of curls. If you are wondering why you are unable to create loose waves, your barrel is probably too large (larger than 1”).
- You got the iron too hot or not hot enough: As I said many times, exposing your hair too extreme heat at once can never bear good results. Get it too hot and the keratin in your hair will start melting.
Or worse, the iron will fry up your hair. Get it too low and it will take ages to form the shape of curls. To figure out what temperature is best for your hair type, refer to the instruction manual of the manufacturer.
- You are curling in the wrong direction: Unless you are going for the 70’s retro look, you should always curl your tresses away from your face to get a natural-looking wave, curl or spiral.
- You are wrapping up too much hair at the time: It is never a good idea to treat a thick section of hair at a time. The maximum thickness of each section should be around 2 inches. Make it wider and the even won’t be evenly distributed throughout that section.
- You are holding the hair for too long: No, beautiful! Doing so isn’t going to give you better-looking curls. Holding it for 8-10 seconds is enough to create tight curls that’ll hold the shape for hours. Overdo it and your precious tufts will end up getting fried.
- You are tugging on the curls too soon: Don’t let your curls fall on your shoulder straight away when the curling is done. This is the key reason why your curls are not staying in shape for a long time. Do yourself a favor and cup the curls with your hands for a few seconds and release them gently when they are cooled down.
- You are holding the barrel the wrong way: You need to hold the wand or iron vertically to get loose curls. The hot end of the barrel should be pointed downwards.
Similarly, if you want to add more volume and create tighter curls, hold it horizontally. However, holding the handle angularly will produce the best results.
- You are touching your hair immediately after curling: Don’t make the grave mistake of running your fingers through your beautiful curls right away. It may cause the curls to droop. Once you release the curls from the clasp, give it a finishing touch by cupping them with your hand, a light brushing will also do the trick.
- You are using the hairspray right at the end: That’s just the waste of hairspray. To tame frizz, avoid tangles and add shine to the curls, you need to spray a holding or heat-protectant spray a little to each section before wrapping it around the barrel.
The Bottom Line
It will be never easy to differentiate the best curling kit from an ocean of options. But if you remember the basics and know what would suit your hair type the best, you will end up making the right decision for sure.
Now you must be wondering on what grounds I am claiming my product list to be the ultimate one. There are several other “best curling iron for long hair” lists floating around the internet.
Well, I can’t vouch for others but I have stayed true to my nature. I included only those products that either I or any of my close acquaintances have had hands-on experience with.
To make the reviews as authentic as it gets, I’ve also spoken to some of the existing customers to clear certain doubts and form an informed opinion. I’ve done my bit, now it’s your turn to reflect on my views and come to a conclusion.
