Philips Norelco 7200 vs 7300: Which One Wins the Bout?

Picking a Beard Trimmer is difficult. It becomes a nightmare when folks attempt a choice between two giants of the shaving industry. Is that the end of the challenge?

No my friend! The hardest hurdle to get over is the one where people dissect between two of the well-known models within an industry giant. When that giant is Phillips, you KNOW that you have a nail-biting choice to make. Picking between Norelco 7200 and 7300 is one such dilemma.

The models are basically carbon copies of each-other. You’d need a magnifying glass to make out the differences. Yet, that’s what I’ve done. Seeing the dilemma of so many of my readers, I’ve attempted a Norelco 7200 vs. 7300 comparison and run some tests with fascinating results.

In this article, I’ll be telling you about my own experience of using these devices. I’ll be listing the similarities I found and I’ll nitpick hard to find what are the minute differences ladies and gents can expect from these twins. Without further ado, let’s board the ship and enjoy the ride.

What I Have to Say After Using These Devices?

You’d see guys delving straight into comparing the two models in an article like this. Not me. You see, I like to test devices before pointing my fingers. This is what I’ve done with the BT7215/49 (AKA Norelco 7200) and 7300. And here’s my account.

Using Philips Norelco Beard Trimmer BT7215/49 Was an Experience!

Why wouldn’t it be? This thing fits right into your palms. Naturally, people can navigate through their faces and body hair with ultimate ease. This trimmer/shaver makes shaving a speedy affair.

You have to thank the motor that delivers people the power to cut and suck in (yes, it sucks in) hair as it does the business. The fan inside is the catalyst that helps the motor to cut and suck 90% of the hair.

Philips Norelco 7200

Don’t worry about the hair length being even after trimming. As it turns out, patented “Lift and Trim” technology is at work here. It delivers even cuts and a close shave when you need one.

One other thing that I was impressed by is the fact that Phillips Norelco BT7215 has 20 (Yes, you read it right) different blade length settings that people can take advantage of. Just turn the Zoom wheel and select from .5 to 10mm length. Be it a complete shave, styling or partial trim of a sideburn, users can do it all!

Wondering what else does this thing have in its sleeves (under the hard plastic body)? This little trimmer features “Contour Comb” system. This nifty addition further allows the blades and the trimmer to adjust to various shaves of our faces and bodies without faltering. Shaving/Trimming is easier than before guys!

Look, I’m not saying this as part of a sales speech. In fact, the blades re competent. These things are self-sharpening in the sense that these blades rub against each other. The act clears hair from the blade tips and keep them sharp for a long time. The blades are skin-friendly. You won’t suffer from nicks or cuts.

During my time with the Norelco 7200, I found the “Click On” trimmer very useful. What you do is click the machine once. The trimmer pops out and helps you in stylizing the facial furniture.

As I mentioned, the blades are self-sharpening. That’s why, cleaning this trimmer set is less of a hassle (if you consider cleaning hassle at all). Remember, the vacuum technology that sucks air into a chamber?

All one needs to do is empty that hair chamber, rinse the blades under water, rub them, and they’re done. There’s a cleaning brush in place to take care of stray hair strands. There you have it! Phillips Norelco 7200 is cleaned. It’s as good as new!

Lithium Ion batteries are always competent. This one within Norelco 7200 isn’t an exception. It charges up quickly and has the legs to deliver 80 minutes of non-stop shaving/trimming time. Wondering how long it takes for the battery to gather the juice? It’s an hour only!

Don’t feel like working up  the battery? Good news! The 7200 can work while being tied to a power cord as well. Talk about convenience!

What I Liked about Norelco 7200

  • I like the overall sleek design of the product. You get to handle this machine.
  • The blades are great; they clean themselves and are easy to maintain for a long period of time.
  • The trimmer is a “Click On” type. It doesn’t burden the machine and impact the shaving.
  • Thanks to an 80-minute runtime of the battery, barbers can use Norelco 7200 to good effect.
  • Don’t worry about cleaning this product, it’s as easy as making and eating a pie.

What I Didn’t Like about Norelco 7200

  • Hard plastic stress points can be prone to damages when you’re not careful enough.

My Days with Philips Norelco BeardTrimmer 7300

Although these article is about measuring the winner in Norelco 7200 vs 7300 contest, but there’s nothing much to dissect in between these two wonder machines. For example, if 7200 had a great motor with vacuum technology, the 7300 comes with such a motor as well.

The motor allowed me to cut the facial hair and trim it as I wanted to. The beard didn’t stick around and create problems like with the other trimmer/shavers out there.

The blades stay sharp for a long period of time. As usual, these are self-sharpening stainless steel blades that cut close to your skin. Yet, people with sensitive skins can use this thing without any concerns. Take it from me: You won’t go through nicks, cuts, and bruises due to abrasiveness.

There’s a guide comb that comes with the package. It has a 0.5mm stubble setting to take care of thick beards. Of course, there are various length settings as well. 18 to be precise. Yes, this is the updated model of the 7000 series yet it features less length settings than my earlier model.

To make shaving less time consuming, there’s a “Turbo” button in place. Push it and the motor works quicker than before. It also cuts more hair than before. Don’t worry. While cutting the hair, it won’t leave patches here and there. The contour adjustment system grants uniformity while shaving.

The display is a good addition in this model. It gives you a clear-cut idea about what’s happening in the machine. One can see different length settings, modes, and the amount of charge left in the battery. Phillips crammed as much info as it could in the panel of this 10mm display.

Speaking of the battery, the weird thing is, one hour of charge gives it legs for 60 minutes of runtime. Why is 7300 has 20 minutes worth of runtime cut off? I guess I’d have to ask that question to Phillips.

I’d say one thing about this machine. It’s secure. People can take it on vacations without worrying too much. There’s a travel lock that keeps Norelco 7300 steady and in one place. There’s no threat of external and internal damages while carrying. Also, this lock prevents the machine from accidentally turning on and spoiling your clothes inside the baggage.

Cleaning this little devil is easy as well. All the hair is stored inside a compartment in the handle. Just pick apart the handle and get the hair out. At the very end, rinse off all the hairs inside and out. But rinsing under the water can be tricky with this trimming machine.

What I Liked about Norelco 7300

  • The stubble comb is great to cut two or three-day old facial or body hair for ladies and gents.
  • This thing has powerful motor but the addition of “Turbo” button allows users to fast-track shaving.
  • I liked the stainless steel blades. These are maintenance-free and stay sharp for long time.
  • The battery delivers enough legs for  two or three shaves with just one hour of charging.
  • The control dial makes it easy for people to switch between different modes and speeds.

What I Didn’t Like about Norelco 7300

  • Replacing the shaving head costs people a lot of money than its contemporaries out there.
  • I don’t think that the machine can be cleaned well by rinsing it under running water.

I trust that people have a better idea about these two models and what they have to offer now. Let’s get into what the similarities between these models are in the next section.

Similarities Between Norelco 7200 and 7300

You’ll find the models 80% similar to each-other (depending on your preferences). Minus one or two simple tweaks in features, both of these things are identical and deliver top notch performances.

For example, the digital display is a huge thing in both the models. You get to see what’s happening in different modes and speed levels. Also, the display shows your comb’s settings. Users are in the know of the process. Also, controlling these shavers/trimmers is as easy as pie with the dial system.

Stainless steel blades are very much the staple of the Norelco series. 7200 and 7300 both have self-sharpening blades. These babies cut your facial furniture like cheese. They rub against each other to get the hair out of the tight nooks and crannies. As a result, cleaning and maintenance becomes easy.

Both these models have vacuum systems that suck the hair in a different compartment that’s part of the handle. So, people can rest easy thinking that the bathroom sink won’t be a messy place after the shaving/trimming routine each day. Feel free to devote the concentration to styling your beard or mustache as much as you want.

The “Hard Plastic” body of each model serves the longevity of these things quite well. During my tests, I dropped these machines quite a lot (Clumsy me!). To my surprise, both these models have survived till today. I’m not telling you to drop them out of the window but these babies can take an accident or two.

Both these models work well with our faces. Norelco 7200 has a contour flowing design. The 7300 has a small footprint to compensate. Users won’t know the difference at all. The end result remains the same. I could cut and trim facial and body hair without any scratches, nicks, cuts, and rashes.

With Phillips 7200 and 7300 I didn’t worry about any kind of maintenance at all. Sure, you need to change the blades frequently. I meant “Frequently” in a loose sense. Also, the mechanism inside is resilient enough to survive for months if not years. You don’t need trips to a mechanic’s place for a fix.

The Lithium Ion battery is a great addition to both the models. But don’t forget, you can use the 7200 and 7300 in a corded state as well. Feel free to use them while the battery is stocking up on some juice. No, there won’t be mechanical failures, trust me. Both of these babies are fit for vacations as well.

Just a tiny detail: Both the models take up one hour to stock up on some battery power. People won’t have to wait half the day for these two to get ready for an important shave. Time matters, folks!

The Big Debate: Comparing Phillips Norelco 7200 and 7300

With overwhelming similarities, I won’t blame you in thinking, “There’s no point in duking it out in a Norelco 7200 vs. 7300 match.” Humbly, I beg to differ. Even though they’re quite similar on the surface, there ARE underlying differences. There’s a fair comparison to be made. 7200 is better than 7300.

Why? Let’s find out!

  • The first thing that comes to my mind is the cordless usage of both the models. 7200 gives me well over an hour when using it on battery (80 minutes to be precise). But its counterpart grants just an hour of shaving with the same recharge duration.
  • Yes, you have combs to facilitate shaving and trimming in both models. Yet, 7200 has as many as 20 different settings when it comes to sizing up tiny dead cells we call hairs. With Phillips 7300 Beard Trimmer, you get 18 settings. 2 settings are not a big deal but it left me a bit sour.
  • Yes, technically Beard Trimmer 7300 is still a trimmer. But it doesn’t have a “Click On” trimmer like the 7200. It’s a bummer. I know. Norelco 7200 edges this one out with an adjustable trimmer attachment on board for occasions when you need one.
  • Let’s address the elephant in the room. You’ve got Vacuum Suction in case of both the devices. But there’s a tiny detail that people should keep in mind when judging the feature. With 7300, the vacuum suction picks up 70% of the hair. BT7215/49 conjured up 90% at the time.
  • Am I being favorable to Phillips BT7215/49? Not to worry, you get a travel lock system with 7300 that prevents the machine from accidentally turning on and shredding your shirts while you enjoy the views during the vacation trip. The BT7215/49’s version isn’t that good this time.
  • Before I forget, Phillips 7300 comes with a Turbo button as well. This thing gives the motor an emergency boost. When you’re in a hurry, push the button for a quicker shave than before. Needless to say, the performance will still remain the same.

Who Wins Norelco 7200 vs 7300 Battle?

Calling it a battle is me going overboard with the topic. Let’s call it honest comparison for now. And, Norelco 7200 is a clear winner. I have my reasons. It takes care of shaving, trimming, and its own maintenance to some degree. People can clean it easily by rinsing it under running water.

Make no mistake, Model # QT4070/41 (AKA Norelco 7300) has the patented lift and trim technology. It runs well. Delivers clean and comfortable shaving experience over and over. People get the travel lock system and the “Turbo” button as well. There’s the immaculate display system at work too!

It’s just that tiny details like the runtime of the battery is on the lower side of things. Also, having maximum flexibility when styling facial hair at the barbershop is important. Keeping all that in mind, Phillips Beard Trimmer BT7215/49 is my champion any day of the week.
